{"id":18,"date":"2018-03-05T13:37:59","date_gmt":"2018-03-05T12:37:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sic.polito.it\/cerone\/?page_id=18"},"modified":"2023-07-14T16:38:19","modified_gmt":"2023-07-14T14:38:19","slug":"short-bio","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sic.polito.it\/cerone\/short-bio\/","title":{"rendered":"Short Academic Biography"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-19 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/sic.polito.it\/cerone\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/03\/vito_cerone.jpg\" alt=\"Vito Cerone\" width=\"189\" height=\"283\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Vito Cerone<\/strong> is a <strong>Professor of Control Systems<\/strong> in the Department of Control and Computer Engineering (Dipartimento di Automatica e Informatica) at the Politecnico di Torino.<\/p>\n<p>He received the <strong><em>Laurea<\/em> degree in Electronic Engineering<\/strong> in 1984 and the <strong>PhD in System Engineering<\/strong> in 1989 from the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. From 1989 to 1990, he has been a <strong>Research Fellow<\/strong> at the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Birmingham (UK). From 1989 to 1998, he has been an <strong>Assistant Professor<\/strong> with the Department of Control and Computer Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino, where he has been an <strong>Associate Professor<\/strong> from 1998 to 2021. In May 2014, he was awarded the Italian National Scientific Qualification to full professorship (<strong>Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale &#8211; ASN<\/strong>), in <strong>Automatica (09\/G1)<\/strong>. Since 2021 he has been a <strong>Full Professor<\/strong> at the Politecnico di Torino. He is a co-author of Linear Quadratic Control: An Introduction. His main research interests include system identification, parameter estimation, optimization, and control, with applications to automotive systems. He has served as <strong>Editor<\/strong> for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.it.is.tohoku.ac.jp\/~tvt\/vtjournal\/editors.html\">IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology<\/a>\u00a0from 2019 to 2022.<\/p>\n<p>He has published numerous scientific papers (H-Index: see the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.google.it\/citations?user=Duvo4aIAAAAJ&amp;hl=it\">Google Scholar page<\/a>), in the areas of modelling, identification and control, in top journals, including<em> IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control<\/em>, <em>Automatica<\/em>, <em>IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology<\/em>, <em>International Journal of Robust Control and nonlinear Control<\/em>, <em>Systems and Control Letters<\/em>, <em>IEEE Control Systems Magazine<\/em>.\u00a0He has also presented many contributions to international conferences such as\u00a0<em>IEEE Conference on Decision and Control<\/em>,\u00a0<em>American Control Conference<\/em>,\u00a0<em>IEEE Conference on Control Technology and Applications<\/em>,\u00a0<em>IFAC Symposium on System identification<\/em>,\u00a0<em>European Control Conference<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Ifac World Congress<\/em>, and <em>IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>At the Politecnico di Torino, he heads the <a href=\"http:\/\/sic.polito.it\"><strong>System Identification and Control <\/strong><\/a>group. National and local projects and contracts with industrial companies have funded his research.<\/p>\n<p>Vito Cerone served as <strong>deputy director<\/strong> of the Dipartimento di Automatica e Informatica from October 2007 to December 2011 and from October 2015 until September 2019.
